Hari Raya may be still long way to go but for some 716 physically and mentally handicapped children, the festivities came a bit earlier. The children from various community-based rehabilitation centres in Penang received early Raya goodies, thanks to Mydin Mohamed Holdings Bhd and the Semai Bakti programme. They were allowed to go on a ‘crazy’ shopping spree at the MYDIN Supermarket in Penang Road. Many of them got themselves new Raya clothes such as kain samping, songkok, baju melayu, baju kurung and scarves. Also present at the recent event was Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department and Tasek Gelugor MP Tan Sri Nor Mohamed Yakcop.

He was accompanied by his wife Puan Sri Fawziah Begum Abu Bakar. Nor Mohamed said this was the fourth year that such an event was held to cheer up the children. He added that this year, they increased the number of children taking part in the event to 716 from 635. Mydin Mohamed Holdings Berhad Director Sadruddin G.H said this was part of the company’s corporate social responsibility to help less fortunate.
