Putrajaya: Some 241,000 police and army personnel will now be able to enjoy discounts from about 20 chain stores nationwide with the launch of the 1Malaysia Privilege Card yesterday. The card will be given to 130,000 army personnel and 111,000 police personnel to enable them to enjoy discounts from stores such as MYDIN, KFC, Tune Hotels, Focus Point, RapidKL, BHPetrol, Jakel Trading and Al-Ikhsan, among others. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak, said he hopes it will help increase the disposable income of the two groups which have contributed a lot to the country’s peace, security and stability.
“Our desire is that the army and police personnel will benefit from this. This is the government’s way of saying thank you to the nation’s security forces,” he said when launching the card here. Najib said there are two means of helping the people by increasing their earnings or by increasing their disposable income. “In the government’s capacity, we have increased the salary and allowance of the civil servants early this year and just recently, I announced the half-month bonus for all civil servants. “Another option is to find ways on how our disposable income can be increased (and this can be done) by providing the services and products for the people at affordable prices,” he said. Najib said the various products and services such as the 1Malaysia Clinics and 1Malaysia People’s Menu are among those launched to help enable the people increase their disposable incomes.
He said the 1Malaysia Privilege Card is an initiative due to the unique and smart partnership between the Home Ministry and Defence Ministry. “In fact, some say that this sort of partnership has not been undertaken by other countries,” said Najib. The card will be distributed in three stages. The first stage involves uniformed army, police officers and personnel; the second involves retired officers; and the final stage involves other groups in the service category to be identified later. Apart from chain stores, the card can also be used to buy sports equipment, vehicle parts, hotels, health products, and other goods and services offered by the company involved. The list of companies will be updated via the 1Malaysia Privilege Card at www.1mprivilege.my.
