More than 200 disabled people from 10 community rehabilitation centres (PDK) in Perak had an early Hari Raya treat when they went shopping to pick out baju raya at Meru Raya Mydin store yesterday, accompanied by Welfare Organisation for Perak’s Elected Representatives’ Wives (Baiduri).

mma disabled Baiduri chairman Datin Seri Saripah Zulkifli, wife of Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Zambry Abd Kadir, said it was the second time Baiduri had organised this Ceria Lebaran PDK Baiduri session. She said it had cost Baiduri RM23,000 to benefit everyone, including non-Muslims, undergoing PDK training. “Last year, 10 PDK in northern Perak were chosen and this year, 10 more, to make sure that all of them get a chance,” she said. Each person was allocated RM80 to spend on clothes they wanted.

“It’s better to let them choose as the sizes would be more accurate,” she said. “There were supposed to be 274, but the rest are unable to travel. The trainers will take their clothes for them.” Muhammad Sidiq Norbik, 17, from PDK Permata Permatang Gunuing in Hilir Perak, was excited. “We usually have clothes sent to us. This is the first time we get to choose. I am looking forward to Hari Raya as I have clothes of my choosing,” said Muhammad Sidiq, who has down syndrome and has been undergoing skills training at the centre for the last seven years.
