Rise to the challenge

KUALA LUMPUR: Entrepreneurs must rise to the challenge to ensure that the opportunities open to them by the "Buy Malaysian" campaign are not wasted.

Zakaria Ismail, the owner of Metro Perda Sdn Bhd which produces the Perda canned drinks, said Bumiputera entrepreneurs should improve their skills in controlling the domestic market and use it as a springboard to the international market.

"The brands of Bumiputera products often do not last long as we do not wish to advance, make half-hearted attempts and are easily contented.

"Some Bumiputera retailers themselves are not confident with the products made by their own people."

The Perda products are sold at the Mydin Wholesale Hypermarket in Subang Jaya. Zakaria said the Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry had helped to promote products of Bumiputera entrepreneurs. He said the government should not only unearth entrepreneurs but also educate them to be skilled businessmen. -- Bernama
