RAYA CHEER: The children from three homes were delighted get their 'baju raya' od thwie choice at Mydin Emporium. KELAB AmBank Group, AmBank Group's sports club, recently treated 105 children to a Hari Raya shopping spree at Mydin Emporium. The children from Rumah Amal Ummul Qura, Surau At Taqwa and Pusat Jagaan Suci Rohani chose their raya clothes with the help of 18 Mydin employees.
AmBank group corporate communications and marketing services head Syed Anuar Syed Ali said the shopping spree was not the first joint charity event with Mydin Emporium, AmBank's corporate social responsibility partner (CSR). The bank also works with other emporiums and hypermarkets under its annual AmKasih CSR programme. Besides charity homes, AmKasih also targets areas with poor communities to help 100 families with financial, literacy and soft skills programmes. To date, the programmes have helped 1,200 families in Penang, Subang Jaya, Klang, Sentul, Kota Kinabalu, Kuching, Kota Baru and Sandakan.
"We hope that these families will be able to stand on their own feet within two years of undergoing our programmes," said Syed Anuar, who is also the club president. The children were also able to pick products at discounted prices. "This is our way of contributing to the less fortunate, in line with the Islamic teaching of being caring, and sympathising with the less fortunate," said Syed Anuar. The children were later brought to Restoran Seri Melayu for the breaking of fast with AmBank Group staff. Each charity home received RM5,000 from AmBank Group chairman Tan Sri Azman Hashim. The club will be organising its Hari Raya charity programme in Kedah tomorrow, Sarawak on Friday, Johor on Saturday, and Kelantan on Aug 13.
