New logo, motto for Buy Malaysian campaign

More than 20 years ago, the first “Buy Malaysian” campaign kicked off nationwide as a way for Malaysians to show their patriotism and confidence in all things Malaysian. Also, by supporting Malaysian products and services, local consumers would directly influence the economy and help it grow.

This year, the “Buy Malaysian” campaign will be officially launched by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman and Sarawak Chief Minister Abdul Taib Mahmud on Friday at Mydin Mall, USJ Subang, 1 Borneo, Kota Kinabalu, and Boulevard, Kuching, respectively.

With a recession expected this year, all three venues will be promoting Malaysian products enthusiastically to support the Malaysian economy during the tough times and educate Malaysians on local goods and services.

An exhibition of 2,000 products will be featured at Mydin Mall in USJ Subang on Friday. There will be more than 250 booths from sectors representing services, general merchandise, high-tech products and SMEs.

To add spice to the event and attract visitors, a number of Malaysian artistes will be performing from Friday till Jan 20, from 9pm at Mydin Mall USJ. They include the Alleycats, Dayang Nurfaizah, Jaclyn Victor, Farah Ashikin and Dafi AF4, Annuar Zain, Adam AF2, Stacy and One Malaysian Emcees.

This year, a new logo and motto will be introduced. The new motto, “Buy Malaysia, Smart Choice” is expected to motivate Malaysians to buy more local products.
